Donte Jackson – Carolina Panthers CB

Considering how important Donte Jackson is to the Carolina Panthers, it seems surprising to see his opening two performances get overlooked in the grand scheme of things. But the cornerback is staking claim to being one of the best players at the position anywhere in the league.

Jackson was once again vital to the team’s eventual triumph over the New Orleans Saints. He was efficient in coverage and ruthless tackling oncoming players, which is an area of his game that’s made some eye-catching strides over the last two seasons.

The former second-round pick out of LSU is an exceptional talent. That’s never been in question where Jackson is concerned.

Staying on the field from a health perspective has been his biggest stumbling block. Problems that the Panthers hope are now a thing of the past.

Having a stud opposite him in the secondary and an unbelievable pass-rush are two more elements bringing the best out of Jackson, who finished Sunday’s game with three important tackles.

This is a huge year for Jackson, the last one on his rookie deal. If the corner keeps this up, then the Panthers would be wise to give him a lucrative contract extension in the not-too-distant future.
