Carolina Panthers weekly awards: Week 2 vs. the Saints
By Dean Jones
Who came away with our Carolina Panthers’ weekly awards from their dominant victory over the New Orleans Saints at Bank of America Stadium?
It was an afternoon that will live long in the memory of everyone associated with the Carolina Panthers. Sunday’s demolition of the New Orleans Saints was a major statement from Matt Rhule’s talented young roster, even though the absence of key personnel from the visitors meant some analysts putting down what turned out to be a significant achievement.
That is a moot point, and the Saints still had enough quality on both sides of the football to make more of an impression than they did. This is a testament to how well the Panthers performed and if they can keep up such a high intensity throughout the campaign, it could see them become one of the league’s biggest surprises.
There isn’t much time for Carolina to bask in this glory, with their Week 3 game at the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football on the immediate horizon. Considering the recent turmoil surrounding the AFC South outfit and their star quarterback Deshaun Watson, it’s a fantastic opportunity for the Panthers to open their 2021 campaign with a 3-0 record.
The Panthers are currently 7.5-point favorites to achieve just this according to the latest odds from WynnBET. They are riding on the crest of a wave currently, but it’s imperative that complacency doesn’t set in after two positive results.
Before attention turns to NRG Stadium, here are our Panthers’ weekly award winners from their emphatic triumph against the Saints.
