Carolina Panthers weekly awards: Week 2 vs. the Saints
By Dean Jones
Jaycee Horn – Carolina Panthers CB
This might become an ongoing thing.
But it appears as if Jaycee Horn is just that good.
The No. 8 overall selection once again proved why he was the first defensive player taken in the 2021 NFL Draft with a commanding display. Horn’s physicality and coverage skills have transformed the Carolina Panthers’ secondary almost instantly, with his partnership alongside fellow cornerback Donte Jackson having tremendous potential moving forward.
Horn picked up yet another milestone against the New Orleans Saints with his first career interception. The first of many if he keeps up this level of production.
It might get to the point where opposing offensive schemes avoid throwing in Horn’s direction entirely. In truth, this may already be happening and did not go unnoticed by those commentating on the Week 2 game at Bank of America Stadium.
Simply put, Horn has the world at his feet.
The South Carolina product comes from good stock and was evidently ready for the significant challenge awaiting him in the pros, which has seen the player hit the ground running in no uncertain terms.
There will be an odd mistake in some situations. Horn is still learning his craft at the next level, after all.
However, considering how Horn has adjusted in the first fortnight of competitive action, it’s clear he was relishing this opportunity and if things continue in a similar fashion during the season, he’ll be a leading candidate for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
