Sam Darnold stepped up when needed the most
Just when it seemed as if all hope was lost for the Carolina Panthers, their quarterback led them on a scoring drive just at the right time.
His exceptional drive in the third quarter that ended with a Tommy Tremble touchdown was exactly what was needed. Something that seemed to settled everybody down after the crushing news regarding Christian McCaffrey that was swiftly followed by rookie cornerback Jaycee Horn also going down with what appeared to be a significant injury.
Darnold wasn’t given much help by his offensive line, who were lackluster all game once again. But one of the main differences with the signal-caller since joining the Panthers is his ability to make the correct throws with someone right in his face.
All things considered, Darnold did incredibly well in this game. And the Panthers might need him to take the mantle and lead from the front of McCaffrey is forced to miss extended time.
The Darnold we saw on the Jets might have crumbled in this situation. Thankfully for the Panthers, he came through in a really big moment that only enhances confidence about his prospects moving forward.
This is a different Darnold. One that could end up being the answer if things continue in this manner.
