4 free-agent CBs the Panthers should target after Jaycee Horn injury
By Dean Jones
Which free-agent cornerbacks should the Carolina Panthers call after Jaycee Horn suffered a broken foot at the Houston Texans?
The Carolina Panthers got themselves to 3-0 for the first time since 2015 with a win at the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football. But it came with a price as both Jaycee Horn and Christian McCaffrey went down with injuries.
McCaffrey left the contest early in the second quarter with a hamstring problem that needs further tests. However, the injury suffered by Horn was diagnosed much sooner.
The No. 8 overall selection broke bones in his foot according to Panthers head coach Matt Rhule following the contest. Horn is now set for a period of rehabilitation on the reserve/injured list, with these injuries normally coming with a six-to-eight-week layoff.
Jaycee Horn’s injury is a major blow for the Carolina Panthers.
This was a big blow for the Panthers. Horn has been fantastic over the first few games of his professional career and he appears to have completely changed the mindset of Carolina’s young and ever-improving secondary.
Now the Panthers have a problem.
Does the team stick with its current options or look outside the organization for additional reinforcements.
Carolina is surely going to activate former Pro Bowler A.J. Bouye at the Dallas Cowboys, which would help. But it might be worth another veteran stepping into the fold to provide cover until Horn is ready to return.
With this in mind, here are four cornerbacks remaining on the free-agent market for Carolina to consider in the wake of Horn’s injury.
