Myles Hartsfield going down with an injury was a big blow. Especially considering how well the defensive back performed in Week 1 against the New York Jets.

The Carolina Panthers might want to sign a veteran safety capable of stepping in at a moment’s notice alongside Jeremy Chinn and Juston Burris depending on the situation, although Sean Chandler has been serviceable over the first three weeks when he’s seen time.

However, there appears little doubt that Kenny Vaccaro would be a significant upgrade. And the Panthers have already had some success bringing in a former Tennessee Titan this season thanks to the sterling work being done by defensive tackle DaQuan Jones.

Vaccaro performed at a relatively high level in 2020. So it’s a real surprise to see him still searching for an avenue back into the league.

Perhaps he’s waiting for the right opportunity rather than signing just anywhere. But the NFL forgets quickly and if Vaccaro doesn’t get a shot soon, his chances of ever playing again would dwindle as a result.

Again, the Panthers might hold the line with its current options. But it’s hard to look at Vaccaro’s capabilities and not think he wouldn’t help in some way.
