3 things to know about new Carolina Panthers CB C.J. Henderson
By Dean Jones
The best is yet to come for C.J. Henderson
Things haven’t been easy for C.J. Henderson throughout his brief time in the league. But going on the reserve/injured list after just eight games of his rookie campaign didn’t exactly help matters.
Life for a first-year corner isn’t easy at the best of times. Henderson was also on a bad defense that was going through a period of transition, so it’s easy to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Henderson gave up 30 receptions from 46 targets last season on his way to a 57.9 grade from Pro Football Focus. Not the worst in the world by any stretch of the imagination, but there appear to be lots to work on at the same time.
That’s where the Carolina Panthers come in. They clearly view Henderson as a player that can help them this season and beyond, so how he responds to the trade is going to be key to his chances of thriving in a new environment.
If Henderson can shrug off his time in Jacksonville quickly, then there appears little doubt the best is yet to come.
His range, athleticism, and instincts dictate that.
Carolina cannot be accused of sitting on their hands. Scott Fitterer has completely revolutionized the organization in the blink of an eye and if Henderson lives up to his billing, it’s yet another bold and brilliant move from the general manager.
Only time will tell, obviously. But it is far too soon to be writing off Henderson just yet.
