4 Carolina Panthers key to C.J. Henderson’s success following trade

Matt Rhule – Carolina Panthers HC
C.J. Henderson has a fan in Carolina Panthers head coach Matt Rhule. He was high on the cornerback during the evaluation process and believes this is the right situation for the player to thrive moving forward.
Speaking to reporters following the trade on Monday, Rhule spoke of having the bigger picture in mind for Henderson. However, considering he’s now without Jaycee Horn, it could result in the player being fast-tracked into a substantial role depending on how quickly he picks things up.
Although Rhule added it was a long-term plan with Henderson, if the coach can motivate him quickly, then the rewards might be more instant.
"“He’s just a young player on his second team in two years. He just needs to come here and be one of the guys and be around our guys. This is a really talented player we held in really high regard, and he was available. We had to make a hard decision. On defense, as you can see, when you have a bunch of good players it’s fun to watch. So just hopefully he’s one more guy in that group. Dick Vermeil said to me years ago, . . . be patient with great talents, that’s why you have a job. I have no debate at all about C.J.’s talent.”"
Rhule has everyone in the locker room pulling in the same direction. Something that’s evident with the effort being demonstrated by the field from proven veterans to those on the depth chart fringes.
He doesn’t suffer fools gladly. So what comes next will be largely down to Henderson’s mentality after such a big move in Year 2 of his pro career.
One thing is for sure, Rhule and the Panthers will support him in whatever way they can.
