Carolina Panthers trade back from No. 33

Another trade for the Carolina Panthers, this time getting another third-rounder from the Baltimore Ravens to drop four spots early in the second round. This makes a ton of sense unless there is someone sitting at No. 33 that the organization loves, and the trade provides them with even more ammunition to freshen things up on the roster.

NORTHERN IOWA. TREVOR PENNING. 37. player. Scouting Report. OT. 87. Pick Analysis

Carolina Panthers pick No. 37: Trevor Penning – OT (Northern Iowa)

The Panthers haven’t had the luxury of a franchise left tackle since the days of Jordan Gross. That has to change either during free agency or the draft in 2022.

Considering veteran blindside protectors don’t come cheap, Carolina could look to the college ranks and find someone capable of filling the void long-term.

Trevor Penning certainly fits the mold thanks to his incredible size and athleticism, which has seen him dominate at Northern Iowa during his time with the program.

He has all the size, poise, and football IQ to make a real go of things. Penning also possesses exceptional hand placement and has no trouble getting out on the move should the opportunity arise.

Penning’s stock is only going to soar once the testing period begins.

His balance does need some work, and there is the small matter of his college competition to consider. But there is an enormous amount to work with en route to the player potentially becoming the answer to Carolina’s prayers.
