Trades galore and major early focus in Panthers 2022 NFL mock draft
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers pick No. 144: De’Jahn Warren – CB (Jackson State)
Deion Sanders becoming head coach at Jackson State has opened up some significant opportunities for those within the program. His recruiting prowess has acquired some top talent in a short space of time and De’Jahn Warren has all the makings of a key rotational piece that could turn into something more in the pros.
Warren has good size and athleticism. Unsurprisingly, his consistency in coverage has taken a substantial leap forward under Sanders, who is widely recognized as the greatest cornerback of all time.
The Carolina Panthers don’t have a big-time need for cornerback help providing Donte Jackson is extended and Jaycee Horn recovers fully from a broken foot. Especially following the recent trade to acquire C.J. Henderson.
However, with the offensive line solidified fully and other areas of need have been bolstered in this scenario, a luxury selection such as this is not entirely out of the question.
Warren has some additional learning to do, there’s no getting away from that. There is also the standard of competition he’s going up against to consider, which wouldn’t ever be classed as stellar.
There wouldn’t be any immediate pressure for Warren to contribute in Carolina. Having some exceptional young talent around him should also aid his development.
