Carolina Panthers couldn’t challenge the non-fumble

It was just one play. But it could have changed a lot.

Jeremy Chinn’s fumble following a big-time hit on tight end Dalton Schultz was ruled out courtesy of “forward progress” determined by the officials. Upon further review, the football came out instantly after the contact and the play should have resulted in a turnover.

Unfortunately for the Panthers, they were unable to challenge the call and the Dallas Cowboys took full advantage by going in for a touchdown.

Now there were plenty of other factors that caused Carolina’s eventual demise. But the officiating wasn’t exactly stellar after a number of pretty obvious calls went against the Panthers throughout.

That’s exactly what to expect when you go on the road to a team like the Cowboys.

Matt Rhule stated he saw it clear as day on the enormous jumbotron immediately after the play. But he couldn’t do anything about it because of the ruling implemented by the referees in charge.

Had the call got overturned or been correct in the first place, who knows which way the momentum would have shifted?

The Panthers cannot do anything about it now. Just brush it off, show some character, and bounce back in Week 5.
