Carolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold gave everybody a scare when he went into the blue tent after yet another sack at the Dallas Cowboys.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out just where the Carolina Panthers are weakest. The offensive line was a grave concern heading into the campaign and it’s done nothing to dispel the notion they simply aren’t up to the challenge.

Sam Darnold was under duress plenty at the Dallas Cowboys. He was sacked four times through three quarters and the last of these gave everyone associated with the Panthers a huge scare.

According to those in attendance, Darnold went to the blue tent after taking another big-time hit shortly before the Cowboys extended their advantage to 26-14 thanks to a Dalton Schultz touchdown.

Sam Darnold was not injured after all.

Fortunately for Carolina, it turned out to be nothing.

Per Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer, Darnold was not in fact hurt on the play, but rather his jersey was ripped trying to get away from contact.

Crisis averted. But it does not detract from just how woeful Carolina’s protection in front of their quarterback actually is.

Unless substantial changes are made – and quickly – it threatens to derail all the good work done by the franchise so far this season.

And all that is going to do is lead to some finger-pointing that could have been avoided.
