Derrick Brown – Carolina Panthers DT

This was not only a measuring stick game for the Carolina Panthers. But it was also the biggest test of Derrick Brown‘s young career so far.

The defensive tackle was going up against arguably the best guard in the business. That, of course, is All-Pro Zack Martin.

Brown clearly has a lot of work to do if he wants to reach the same sort of level during his time in the league. The former No. 7 overall selection was overawed by Martin and the entire Dallas Cowboys offensive line throughout, which led to a huge rushing day from Ezekiel Elliot and Tony Pollard.

While not entirely unexpected, it was disappointing.

Especially when one considers just how formidable Brown and the Panthers’ front seven were over the previous three games.

The whole game was one big wake-up call. Brown knows he should be doing better and Carolina is counting on him not only this season but also to become the defensive anchor for years to come.

We’ll put this down to the standard of opposition Brown was coming up against. A far cry from the dismal interior protectors through Week 3.

However, the next step for the Auburn product is making a difference against players like Martin. Once Brown figures this out, the sky is the limit.
