Stephon Gilmore brings veteran leadership to the Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are a very young team and not many expected them to try and go all-in this season. But their young nucleus has broken out a year earlier than expected and there still isn’t one true veteran in the locker room to settle everyone down.

As crazy as it is to think, quarterback Sam Darnold is still just 24 years old, Brian Burns is one of the longest-tenured players on the team in his third year and the Panthers began the season as the fourth-youngest roster in the league.

The oldest player on the team is long snapper, J.J. Jansen.

Gilmore instantly becomes the most proven player on the roster and brings a winning pedigree that can only help Carolina.

As a Super Bowl champion, Gilmore has spent the majority of his career with Tom Brady and under Bill Belichick, meaning he knows how to win.

With a team as young as the Panthers, there will likely come a point this season when they’ll need that veteran leadership to keep them in check and Gilmore will do just that. That’s why this trade is a win-win for all parties providing the cornerback can make a difference on the field when Carolina’s schedule gets a little tougher down the stretch.
