Sam Darnold couldn’t come through in the clutch

One of the biggest criticisms reading Teddy Bridgewater’s production in 2020 was his failure to come through in clutch moments down the stretch. The Carolina Panthers lost eight games by one score last time around and the hope was Sam Darnold would come in and improve matters considerably.

This was his first big opportunity to prove he’s the man for the job.

And he failed to deliver.

Darnold just couldn’t get things moving sufficiently after the Philadelphia Eagles took the lead for the first time with a little more than two minutes remaining. This eventually resulted in his third interception of the afternoon when targeting Robby Anderson.

The wide receiver was absolutely furious on the sidelines following the pick, which indicates there could be a growing sense of frustration where Darnold’s conviction throwing the football is concerned.

If last weekend was a reality check, this was just a complete disaster from an offensive point of view and Darnold needs to take his fair share of the responsibility.

This is a massive upcoming week for Darnold. Improvements need to be made, and quickly. Otherwise, things could get even worse next Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
