Which Carolina Panthers player could be set for a breakout game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5 of the 2021 season?

There were many directions to go with this article between rookies looking to have their first marquee game and new acquisitions wanting to prove they were worth the second chance and the price paid to bring them to the Carolina Panthers.

But I decided to go a different route this week and talk about someone who has already broken out yet no one wants to mention.

Donte Jackson.

The cornerback has been nothing short of exceptional this season yet has somehow gone largely unnoticed even after the injury to rookie sensation Jaycee Horn put more pressure on his shoulders.

The lifetime Panther has only given up 169 yards on a 58.3 percent completion percentage on the year. And if that isn’t good enough proof for you, Jackson held CeDee Lamb to only two catches for 13 yards in Week 4. A player that had at least 60 yards in every game this season.

This is also on top of the fact that teams purposefully threw his way while Horn was on the field. Something the young corner hasn’t had to deal with all that much in his early career.

In spite of this, after both the C.J. Henderson and Stephon Gilmore trades all any sportscaster could talk about was the future of pairing them with Jaycee Horn on the outside with maybe an afterthought of Jackson in the slot.

While having a stellar talent like Jackson playing a slot corner position would be an embarrassment of riches, that discounts just what the player has been able to accomplish the last few years after the departure of James Bradberry.
