What were the big talking points as the Carolina Panthers snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5?

This was a bad, bad game for the Carolina Panthers. It easily goes into the category of one of Matt Rhule’s worst losses as an NFL head coach.

The Panthers‘ offense was completely stagnant, especially in the third quarter.

We’ve heard that one before, too.

Sam Darnold played comfortably his worst game since his acquisition from the New York Jets, finishing the game 21/37 for 177 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.

The Panthers’ weak offensive line struggled again allowing three sacks and again giving Darnold little time in the pocket.

It’s fruitless talking about the failings of the offensive line week after week, we knew these issues were underlying, and not surprisingly adding two of the worst available options in Pat Elflein and Cam Erving in free agency did little to ease concern.

Carolina’s general manager Scott Fitterer famously said he was “in on every deal”. Let’s hope those include some protection for his quarterback either in free agency or before the trade deadline.

Without further ado, let’s get into some big talking points from a disappointing Week 5 performance from Carolina.
