Houston Texans should sign Cam Newton

Things are not looking good for the Houston Texans. The Deshaun Watson situation threw a significant spanner in the works and Tyrod Taylor’s untimely injury meant rookie third-rounder Davis Mills has been thrust into action much sooner than expected.

The Stanford product has been inconsistent so far, which wasn’t entirely unexpected when one considers the lack of talent around him. Mills will also be without stud left tackle Laremy Tunsil for the foreseeable future, so if they don’t want their season to spiral out of complete control then bringing in someone like Cam Newton becomes a realistic option.

Sure, it might not make much of a difference due to how bad the Texans are.

But it allows Newton to get his foot back in the door after being on the outside looking in since his release by the New England Patriots.

This is the second time Newton’s been released with bad timing. There was plenty of criticism when the Carolina Panthers cast him aside in similar circumstances to make way for Teddy Bridgewater, which didn’t exactly go as all sides had hoped in 2020.

Houston might want to see how Mills develops before deciding if they need additional reinforcements next spring. After all, the chances of Watson ever playing for them again are remote at best.
