The Carolina Panthers coaching staff

It was just an all-around bad coaching job by the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

From penalties to third-down failures, to bad clock management, it was just a mess of a day for head coach Matt Rhule and his staff.

On the final drive in the second quarter, Sam Darnold even called back-to-back timeouts, which you can’t do in the NFL, leading to a delay of game.

Yes, that’s on Darnold, but the coaching staff should have that under control.

Carolina was then called for a holding penalty the following play, which put them out of field goal range. And once again, the offense failed to score a single point in the third quarter.

At one point, the Minnesota Vikings had more yards off penalties than the Panthers had total.

Offensive coordinator Joe Brady even has calls to be fired from fans on social media after another lackluster offensive performance had it not been for the final drive to tie the game. While that won’t happen, it’s clear the coach doesn’t have the necessary confidence in his signal-caller to get the job done without Christian McCaffrey in the backfield.

Things are only going to get tougher as the season goes on, especially down the stretch and unless adjustments are made, it’s going to be another long season.
