Carolina Panthers must get Brian Burns more involved

The one speck on the defense’s record over the last couple of games is the lack of involvement we’ve seen from Brian Burns, especially in the pass rush.

After the first three games in which Burns played lights out, since the victory at the Houston Texans, Burns has been a non-factor.

The issue at times seems to be he’s going for the strip-sack instead of just focusing on getting the quarterback down. Meaning Burns is leaving sacks out on the field.

Burns has been outshone by free agent signing Haason Reddick who has been sensational for the Carolina Panthers. He is still only in his third year, so there’s still scope for improvement. However, after the lights out start to the season his regression is something that defensive coordinator Phil Snow must keep an eye on.

The Florida State product has the perfect opportunity to bounce back in Week 7 when the Panthers travel to face the 1-5 New York Giants. If Burns and the Panthers cannot come through this one without a much-needed victory, then the murmurings of discontent will be deafening.

Burns has all the talent in the world. But the time has come for the edge rusher to turn this explosive pressure into more game-changing plays.
