Robby Anderson – Carolina Panthers WR

The fall of Robby Anderson in 2021 has been painful to watch at times. After a standout first season with the Carolina Panthers, things have regressed considerably for the Temple product through six weeks and Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings was littered with bad drops that impacted his ability to have the necessary impact on proceedings.

If the Panthers were hoping that Anderson’s previous relationship with Sam Darnold from their time together on the New York Jets would transition to a different environment, they were mistaken. The duo hasn’t been on the same page for whatever reason and if this continues moving forward, things are only going to get more complicated.

Nobody will be more frustrated than Anderson, who’s brought in just 37.5 percent of balls thrown his way during the current campaign. Not exactly what the Panthers had in mind when they gave him a two-year contract extension before the regular season began.

Anderson has the talent and he is creating separation. But for whatever reason, Darnold’s timing with the weapons he was most familiar with hasn’t been quite there.

And even when it is, Anderson needs to do a better job of bringing in tough catches to help out his signal-caller.

It’s a little too soon to be writing off Anderson just yet. But the concerns about his production cannot be ignored at this point.
