Sam Darnold – Carolina Panthers QB

To say it’s been a stark contrast in Sam Darnold’s fortunes from the first three weeks to the last would be understating things slightly. After a sensational start to the campaign that had him as the talk of the town across the league, the former first-round pick has reverted to type and there are now plenty of doubts as to whether he is capable of holding down the position long term.

Of course, not having Christian McCaffrey is a blow and something that’s impacted Darnold more than most. However, the Carolina Panthers cannot keep relying on the All-Pro so heavily with the vast number of other solid weapons on their roster.

Darnold wasn’t helped by his receivers against the Minnesota Vikings. Multiple drops in key moments derailed the team’s progress and had it not been for an incredible 96-yard drive in the fourth quarter, the end result would have been far more convincing.

Confidence is waning within Carolina’s fanbase where Darnold is concerned.

Some are already past the point of no return.

Now it’s up to Darnold, really. His limitations and poor decision-making at times become his undoing. And going back to MetLife Stadium in such difficult form could go either way, in all honesty.

A big test of character. But what’s apparent is that Darnold cannot do it alone.
