Stephon Gilmore brings a winning mentality to the Carolina Panthers
As stated previously, Stephon Gilmore has done it all. All-Pro, NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Pro Bowler, and Super Bowl winner.
This sort of winning mentality is going to do an untold amount of good for the Carolina Panthers.
Trading for Gilmore legitimized the current project being undertaken by Matt Rhule and Scott Fitterer. Some of their decisions are coming under fire – most notably the reluctance to strengthen the offensive line sufficiently – but the acquisition of such a proven player might be exactly what this locker room is after.
Carolina has plenty of talent. But when it comes to winning, not many have accomplished this consistently in an NFL setting.
Gilmore changes all that in the blink of an eye.
He knows what a winning franchise looks like from his time with the New England Patriots and can help his teammates and the coaching staff on the improvements needed to get the Panthers where they want to go.
Whether this is a short-term arrangement or something more hasn’t been decided yet. But the Panthers should make good use of all Gilmore’s expertise while they have him.
Players with the track record of Gilmore’s don’t grow on trees. And providing there aren’t any additional setbacks with the quad, the benefits are there for all to see.
