Carolina Panthers should try Brady Christensen at LG

Just what the Carolina Panthers are doing with Brady Christensen is still a mystery six weeks into the 2021 season. But one thing’s for sure, it isn’t fair on the third-round pick.

It seems the Panthers drafted Christensen – moving up in the draft to acquire him no less – with absolutely no idea where he’d be best suited. The BYU product was an elite left tackle at the college level, but Carolina’s insistence to utilize him as a utility option isn’t doing them or the player any favors.

Even when Dennis Daley was benched early against the Minnesota Vikings, the Panthers opted to use Michael Jordan at the left guard spot rather than go with Christensen, who Carolina gave a second-round grade on the interior.

Jordan struggled mightily and was responsible for conceding three of the team’s four sacks according to Pro Football Focus. Considering Daley’s inconsistencies in pass protection now is the time for Christensen to get some extended reps.

Honestly, just why he isn’t in the lineup already is just bizarre.

Christensen held his own at left tackle in the absence of Cam Erving against the Philadelphia Eagles, only to be cast aside to the bench when the underperforming veteran was healthy enough to return.

Putting Christensen at left guard is an option well worth considering. And if he shines at the position in this scenario, just leave him there for the foreseeable future.

Otherwise, why draft him in the first place?
