Carolina Panthers DE Brian Burns gets multiple sacks

Much has been made of the lack of numbers for Brian Burns in recent weeks. While fellow edge rusher Haason Reddick is thriving, the former Florida State star is finding it difficult to live up to some pretty lofty preseason targets.

It’s not been easy. Burns is getting far more double-teams and help from tight ends and running backs to limit his influence, although he is still leaving sacks out on the field by not finishing off plays.

Once Burns figures this out, then there’s little doubt he could be a future Pro Bowler.

However, it’s an ongoing frustration and something the player and the Carolina Panthers need to solve at the earliest possible opportunity.

Sunday’s game at the New York Giants is a good chance for Burns to have a breakout game. Stud left tackle Andrew Thomas has already been ruled out, which only adds to their problems on offense without players such as Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay, and Kadarius Toney.

At least on the face of things, Burns and Reddick should have a field day. The team captain needs to realize that every sack doesn’t have to be a turnover, but one cannot look at this particular matchup with anything other than real expectation.

We’re tipping Burns to silence his doubters with a multi-sack display at the same venue where Reddick notched five sacks for the Arizona Cardinals in 2020.
