Carolina Panthers must take advantage of a hobbled OL
For once this season the Carolina Panthers may be going up against an offensive line in worse shape than their own come Sunday.
With multiple starters lost for the season and another put on IR in Week 6, the New York Giants’ protection has certainly seen better days and that showed against the deadly defense of the Los Angeles Rams.
Now the Panthers may not have the nuclear missile that is Aaron Donald. But they have a few weapons of their own.
Hasson Reddick has more than proven last season wasn’t a fluke, Brian Burns has struggled some of late but is still something teams have to plan for, and Derrick Brown had a fantastic day in Week 6 that was overshadowed by the overarching lunacy of that game.
Going into the year this group was touted as one of the best in the League with the underlying potential to be one of the best ever. That may have been a bit overzealous, but this team has an enormous amount of potential that just hasn’t been tapped yet.
Burns especially has been a step away from multiple sacks this year and the protection should give that extra step up on Sunday. When you pair that with Reddick who is one of the league’s sack leaders this season on the opposite side, where are the Giants going to put their extra protection?
Answer? Always the wrong place no matter where they put it.
That’s for the simple reason that even if the Giants do contain the edges, Brown will push through a middle that is starting backups.
This should be a huge game for this defensive line and if it isn’t there are zero excuses anymore. I expect big things.
Daniel jones does not perform well under pressure. This game is one where the quarterback should be running for his life from the word go.
