Carolina Panthers to cover alternate -6.0 spread

This is only for the eternal optimist. But considering how much the New York Giants are struggling both on the field and from an injury perspective, the Carolina Panthers should go in for the kill despite their own complications.

Playing on the road isn’t easy. Quarterback Sam Darnold also needs to rid himself of some troubling form at the place he called home for three years with the New York Jets.

There are growing doubts as to whether Darnold is the long-term answer under center in Carolina. The arm strength is there and the footwork is improving, but decision-making and poor processing continue to be a problem where the former USC star is concerned.

This is a chance to put things right.

Providing the offensive line – which will feature Brady Christensen at left tackle in Cam Erving’s absence – lives up to their end of the bargain, it should allow Darnold enough time to make a difference despite Matt Rhule’s desire to adopt a run-first approach.

Everything has to go right for the Panthers. But the increased sense of urgency – coupled with an under-strength Giants team – makes betting the alternate spread of -6.0 at +140 (bet $100 to win $140) a bold yet attainable wager.
