As stated previously, the Carolina Panthers made no secret of their desire to get the running game going moving forward. Not exactly the biggest recommendation in Sam Darnold, but it represents an opportunity for Chuba Hubbard to enhance his growing reputation.
The fourth-round pick has performed really well in a starting role since Christian McCaffrey went down with a hamstring injury. With the All-Pro set to be out for a couple more weeks, Hubbard needs to build on this positive momentum and set the tone in Week 7.
There’s nothing to suggest Hubbard isn’t capable of this. Although giving him 20-plus carries at this stage of his progression might do more harm than good.
The Oklahoma State product appeared confident in his own abilities during a press conference this week. And for all the offensive line’s faults in pass protection, they are creating some holes in the run game for Hubbard to utilize.
If Hubbard gets more in the way of touches this weekend against a Giants defense that struggles against the run, expect him to approach the 100-yard mark for the second time in his career.
