The Houston Texans have clearly washed their hands of Deshaun Watson. Had they done this before all the legal complications surfaced, then the organization would already be sitting on a king’s ransom.

Tyrod Taylor was brought in during free agency to fill the void amid all the disruption surrounding Watson. As has been the case for much of the player’s career, an unfortunate injury at just the wrong time forced the Texans to start third-round pick Davis Mills way sooner than expected.

Taylor is now back and expected to start in Week 8. But if the Texans get a quarterback in return as part of the Watson trade, then the veteran might find himself on the outside looking in.

It’s been a series of misfortunes for Taylor, who was the Los Angeles Chargers starter in 2020 before suffering a punctured lung at the hands of his own team doctors. Justin Herbert was installed as the No. 1 and the rest is history.

This would be a band-aid move for the Carolina Panthers. One that they could rely on before regrouping next offseason and deciding on their next play.

Stability is the big key for Carolina. If they miss out on Watson or decide not to pull the trigger, then Taylor could be a solid short-term option if Sam Darnold regresses further at the Atlanta Falcons.
