Carolina Panthers must revive Brian Burns and Hasson Reddick

What happened to the Carolina Panthers’ defensive line?

Now something can be said about the position the defense has been put in by the offense and especially the special teams in recent games. However, the great ones rise above circumstance and excel where others don’t.

The star-studded duo of Brian Burns and Hasson Reddick has yet to prove capable of this in 2021.

After a remarkable start to the year, the duo has trailed off significantly and Carolina’s sack numbers have nosedived accordingly. How a team with this much talent only mustered two sacks against a patchwork New York Giants line is beyond me.

There is no telling what has happened, but they have not been the same players.

Phil Snow is seemingly the only coach not on the hot seat for the moment in Carolina. But he needs to work some magic with Burns and Reddick because one of the most important parts of defense is its ability to pressure the quarterback.

These players are better than this. They know it, the team knows it, we know it. So it’s high time they start proving everyone right. This is especially important against a team that is as pass-focused as the Atlanta Falcons are.

Matt Ryan threw 40 passes last week, that’s 40 opportunities for Burns or Reddick to change the game, 40 opportunities for a sack.

Something has to give sooner or later and it needs to happen on Sunday. Without a pass rush even the best corners cant hold up forever. And if Ryan has all day to throw, it’s gonna get ugly quick for a free-falling Panthers team.
