Sam Darnold – Carolina Panthers QB
Time is running out for Sam Darnold.
In truth, the quarterback might already be past the point of no return.
The Carolina Panthers gave up second and fourth-round picks to secure Darnold’s services from the New York Jets. After the first three games, it looked like the organization might have been onto something.
Since then, it’s been a disaster. Darnold lost his primary weapon in Christian McCaffrey and has looked like a rabbit in the headlights ever since without the All-Pro.
The offensive line isn’t exactly top-caliber. But the former USC standout is struggling to get rid of the football efficiently and it’s evident his confidence is waning with every passing game.
Darnold was mercifully benched at the New York Giants. Something which brought around reports that the Panthers were going back to exploring a trade for Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans.
Matt Rhule has stated that Darnold will be the starter this week despite the Watson speculation. However, one more false move from the signal-caller could spell the end.
This isn’t what the Panthers or Darnold hoped for. But bringing him on board was a big gamble that clearly isn’t paying off.
