Carolina Panthers got another flawless display from Zane Gonzalez
That settles it.
The Carolina Panthers have their long-term kicker in Zane Gonzalez.
After what seemed like a never-ending search for a consistent kicker that saw the Panthers use Ryan Santoso and Joey Slye before Gonzalez, they appear to have finally found their man.
Gonzalez has been at the top of his game in recent weeks. But this was undeniably his best performance in a Carolina uniform.
The free-agent signing nailed all four of his field-goal attempts – including two from beyond 50 yards – and also hit his solitary extra point to further enhance his overall influence on proceedings.
If Gonzalez keeps this up for the remainder of the season, he can expect a multi-year extension coming his way next spring. Although the life of a kicker is a week-to-week deal and especially considering how ruthless the Panthers have been at the position.
It would have been easy for the team to cut ties with Gonzalez after a disappointing first game. Their patience has paid off and although additional touchdowns are preferred, Carolina can relax safe in the knowledge they now have a reliable kicker that can get them valuable points when called upon.
And everyone associated with the Panthers can be thankful for that.
