5 last-ditch trades for the Panthers to consider before the 2021 deadline
By Dean Jones
Gardner Minshew – QB
Sam Darnold went out of Sunday’s game with a concussion that will need to be monitored throughout the week. And it doesn’t appear as if the Carolina Panthers have a great deal of faith in backup P.J. Walker to further complicate matters.
All the talk of Carolina moving for Deshaun Watson came to nothing. A wise decision considering the asking price and the current legal complications yet to be resolved regarding the former Clemson star.
The Panthers need a better Plan B as it’s clear Darnold is a work in progress regarding rectifying simple flaws that blighted his time with the New York Jets.
Someone like Gardner Minshew makes a ton of sense. Although the Philadelphia Eagles may want to keep hold of the signal-caller in the event Jalen Hurts regresses or is forced to miss time at any stage.
Minshew’s production gets overlooked somewhat. One could make an argument for him still being a starter for the Jacksonville Jaguars had the team not been in a position to draft a generational talent in Trevor Lawrence at No. 1 overall.
This would be a vote of no confidence in Darnold. But the simple fact is the player is not going to be the long-term answer in Carolina unless a drastic turnaround transpires in the coming weeks.
The Eagles recently traded away Joe Flacco, which makes this move a difficult one if the Panthers go in this direction.
