A.J. Bouye – Carolina Panthers CB

It’s not like A.J. Bouye hasn’t been playing well since returning from suspension. However, he does appear to be the odd-man-out in the Carolina Panthers’ loaded cornerback room.

At least on the face of things, this does make sense.

Bouye is still playing well enough for a team with more postseason ambitions than the Panthers currently possess to make a move. This would also provide the organization with another draft pick to use next spring.

Keith Taylor Jr.’s recent encouraging performances could see the Panthers move on from Bouye, who was picked up in free agency after being released by the Denver Broncos.

The veteran has flashed in Carolina. Even though the defense has been exposed on occasions thanks in no small part to the offense not doing their job and staying on the field for a consistent period of time without Christian McCaffrey.

Much will depend on the compensation involved. But a mid-round selection or something similar could see the Panthers pull the trigger if things heat up where Bouye is concerned before the 2021 deadline.

This would leave the Panthers with Stephon Gilmore, Donte Jackson, Taylor Jr., and C.J. Henderson moving forward short-term. It’s also worth remembering that Carolina might also get promising rookie Jaycee Horn back before the end of the campaign.
