Marquis Haynes – Carolina Panthers DE/OLB
The Carolina Panthers are clearly building something special on the defensive side of the football. Phil Snow’s unit looks like a playoff-ready machine and their performance at the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8 was another strong indicator of just how dominant this group can become if the offense lives up to its end of the bargain.
Although this is all encouraging, there doesn’t appear much room for Marquis Haynes judging by his usage this season. The former Ole Miss star has been a relative afterthought in 2021 despite proving his worth as a key rotational piece, so considering the player is out of contract next spring it might be worth the Panthers fielding some calls in pursuit of getting a draft pick back in return.
Teams are always looking for pass-rushing help. Haynes has some solid film to perhaps convince somebody into making an offer, which the edge defender would probably welcome given he saw the field for just five snaps in Week 8, which was a season-low.
Carolina has a lot of mouths to feed regarding contract extensions before 2022 free agency. Haynes will be pretty low down the pecking order in this regard.
Haynes has been a solid piece for the Panthers. But the addition of some additional quality during the offseason has left him on the outside looking in.
