Carolina Panthers trade out of No. 14 overall

This isn’t really the situation that the Carolina Panthers wanted or expected to be in. They gave up three draft picks to bring Sam Darnold on board from the New York Jets, but his production of late probably means he isn’t going to be the long-term answer under center.

It’s back to the drawing board for Carolina, which is a real blow considering they don’t have a Day 2 pick to speak of right now. Quite the predicament for an organization that has questions to answer at the two most important positions on offense.

Although the Panthers select at No. 14 in this scenario, there’s a high likelihood it could be higher than this considering their tough run of fixtures following the bye week.

Either way, it would be prudent for Carolina’s primary decision-makers to explore potential trade-down options and get some selections back in return to strengthen multiple areas.

In this mock draft, a deal is struck with the Las Vegas Raiders, who give up three selections to move up from No. 20. A realistic option for Carolina depending on how the all-important draft board plays out.

What their top priority is going to be is probably down to two positions. And they have to select wisely.
