Carolina Panthers land future QB in full 7-round 2022 NFL mock draft
By Dean Jones
Jaxson Kirkland – OT (Washington)
Now that the Carolina Panthers have their quarterback, next on the agenda is acquiring a potential franchise left tackle that can solidify the blindside. Much like the situation with Sam Darnold, it’s clear as day that Cam Erving is not the answer, which wasn’t entirely unexpected given his distinct lack of production throughout the former first-round pick’s career.
The Panthers making Erving one of their top free-agent priorities is as bemusing now as it was this spring. Those in power ignored the offensive line during the offseason and they cannot do the same again next time around.
Having a Day 2 pick gives them a little more flexibility. And from a talent standpoint, there is a lot to like about Jaxson Kirkland’s chances of forging a successful NFL career.
Kirkland is a tremendous athlete that seems incredibly poised on the edge. Although the Washington prospect has experience playing on the interior to further enhance his credentials.
However, it does seem like Kirkland is best suited to being a tackle. He is extremely fluid and has the footwork to cope with speedy rushers coming off the edge, but he will need to bulk up somewhat once the player gets to the next level.
With that being said, there aren’t many flaws in Kirkland’s game and he could end up being a Day 1 starter for the Panthers with a smooth transition.
