Cam Erving – Carolina Panthers OT
Although the offensive line produced a much-improved display at the Atlanta Falcons, Cam Erving was once again the weak link on occasions.
We are now almost midway through the season and things don’t seem to be getting any better where the former first-round pick is concerned. His distinct lack of effort on the play that got Sam Darnold concussed was the latest in a series of mishaps and also came in for severe criticism from the team’s fanbase on social media.
The Carolina Panthers apparently have no faith in rookie Brady Christensen despite trading up to acquire the BYU product in the 2021 NFL Draft. His one start at left tackle was solid if not spectacular, but Erving was installed immediately after recovering from a neck problem.
Watch Cam Erving’s effort on the play Sam Darnold got obliterated. The guy is jogging and not looking for anybody to hit. It’s one thing to get beat while giving 💯. But this type of effort is 🗑 and he got his QB knocked out of the game. pic.twitter.com/Enh2cUp69L

Patience is wearing thin with Erving, who’s never going to reach the expectations that saw the Cleveland Browns select him in the first round out of Florida State.
Bill Belichick is one of the league’s greatest-ever when it comes to game-planning. So it won’t take him long to detect the blindside’s frailties and expose them accordingly.
Carolina’s decision to give Erving a two-year deal was arguably the strangest decision of the Scott Fitterer era so far. If the player cannot produce the goods in this one, then it might see the Panthers finally go with Christensen for a prolonged period.
