Phil Hoskins – Carolina Panthers DT

Considering the Carolina Panthers are a little short at defensive tackle after fifth-round pick Daviyon Nixon went to the reserve/injured list, it is somewhat surprising that Phil Hoskins hasn’t been activated.

The former Kentucky stud was seen as a development project in any case. But we are almost midway through the season now and this is normally the time when players such as this make more of an impression.

Hoskins has a lot of likable traits to call upon and is a commanding presence to move off the block. The Panthers are taking things slowly – and rightfully so – which will hopefully be the best thing for the player in the long run.

With that being said, Bravvion Roy isn’t exactly pulling up any trees during his time on the field. So depending on how results go in the coming weeks, Hoskins could see some reps towards the end of the season in a similar fashion to last year’s seventh-rounder Stantley Thomas-Oliver III.

With DaQuan Jones out of contract, Nixon’s injury, and Roy’s lack of production, there does appear to be an opportunity for Hoskins to make some noise in 2022 providing his progress comes on in a satisfactory fashion.
