David Tepper – Carolina Panthers owner
I get it, it’s kind of hard for a team owner to be on the hot seat as they can’t ever get fired. But the fact is David Tepper’s questionable decisions – especially over the last year – have left the organization perhaps worse off.
Tepper has big plans for the Carolina Panthers. And he deserves credit for putting together the Rock Hill development, which will be an extraordinary, industry-leading headquarters when completed.
But some football decisions leave a lot to be desired.
Giving Matt Rhule control over personnel decisions, ripping the heart and soul out of the Panthers with the departures of Cam Newton and Greg Olsen among others was bemusing. The turf change at Bank of America Stadium for no other reason than to generate money through his soccer team and events when the Panthers aren’t playing was another move that infuriated the fanbase.
There is also his infatuation with Deshaun Watson despite the ongoing legal complications surrounding the Houston Texans quarterback. Yet more inquiries were made before the deadline that came to nothing, but one cannot help but question this considering there is so much to resolve off the field.
Tepper hasn’t had much to cheer for since buying the team from Jerry Richardson. And in all honesty, his patience might be wearing thin.
