The Carolina Panthers did the right thing by re-signing quarterback Cam Newton to potentially save their 2021 season.

It is no surprise that after the constant injuries that starting quarterbacks for the Carolina Panthers have endured of late, Sam Darnold would also fall victim.

Darnold suffered two weeks of such problems, putting him under concussion protocols and now a shoulder injury that eventually saw the former New York Jet move to the reserve/injured list. It appeared as if P.J. Walker was going to get a prolonged shot at starting – and still might be under center on the road against the Arizona Cardinals – but the Panthers decided to drop a bombshell and reignite excitement across the organization.

After a successful meeting earlier today, the Panthers decided to re-sign Cam Newton on a one-year deal that could be worth up to $10 million with incentives.

There are no mixed feelings for fans about this homecoming for one of the most iconic and record-breaking players to play for the Panthers. Certainly, not by the reaction on social media.

The question that should be asked now is, can Newton come in and make the team better right now?

Out of all of the quarterbacks in the discussion since his release, from Teddy Bridgewater and Will Grier to current options such as Darnold, Walker, and Matt Barkley, Newton is undoubtedly the best of the bunch.

And it doesn’t appear that close.

Coming out of college Newton thrived by bringing his own collegiate playmaking into the mix under former coach Ron Rivera, who built a team with a more traditional play call styling.

Right now the Panthers need to look for a quarterback who can scramble out of a collapsing pocket, who can throw, can convert on third downs, can adapt by making audible plays, and most importantly lead a team.

With the weakest link on the Panthers being the offensive line, a player who can escape pocket pressure like Newton would be the best shot they have at securing a surprise postseason spot.

Cam Newton changes the dynamic across the Carolina Panthers.

This is a win-win.

The Panthers did the right thing by swallowing their pride and giving Newton a long-overdue call and nobody is happier than a fanbase that has always idolized the No. 1 overall selection in 2011.

Carolina has a top-five defense and special teams production that’s where it needs to be. All that’s missing is consistent play under center and the protection in front of him.

Newton changes the dynamic. His ability to run out of the backfield is in keeping with Rhule’s desire to adopt this approach, so reuniting the signal-caller with Christian McCaffrey is a mouth-watering proposition.

If it doesn’t work out, then is provided Carolina with a spark when they needed it most.

But considering how well Newton looked in training camp with the New England Patriots and the talent Carolina has on offense, it’s hard to see him falling flat on his face.

Bank of America Stadium is going to be electric in Week 11 against the Washington Football Team when Newton is introduced. Perhaps the most spine-tingling moment in franchise history.
