Cam Newton will get Carolina Panthers fans back in seats

Make no mistake about it, Bank of America Stadium will be rocking next week. When the offensive starters are read out expect an epic outpouring of support as Cam Newton returns home.

A lot has been made this season about the lack of Panthers fans being present for home games. Some PSL owners seemed to be selling tickets mostly to visiting supporters, but frankly, who can blame them?

People rightly don’t want to spend their hard-earned cash to watch a team that can’t score points and can’t win games.

From next Sunday, that will change.

Expect uptown Charlotte to be a hive of activity, and expect the stadium to be full of people supporting Newton and the home team.

This is a man who has the talent to fill stadiums and get fans on the edge of their seats.

Now, of course, Newton is 32 years old and no one is expecting him to reach the heights of his MVP season. However, compared to what Carolina currently has in their quarterback room he is streaks ahead.

The Sam Darnold experiment has clearly failed, P.J. Walker seems to not have the trust of the coaching staff and Matt Barkley should not be seeing an NFL field.

But more importantly, Newton will give a huge boost to a fanbase that’s struggled to find an affinity with this team in the Matt Rhule era.

Even if Newton doesn’t succeed, he deserves this opportunity. The Auburn product is a player who can excel behind a struggling offensive line, and gone are the days of throwing to the likes of Jerrico Cotchery and Ed Dickson.

Now with an elite D.J. Moore and the talent of Robby Anderson, Newton can take this offense forward. Bringing back the man who gave the Panthers their best season in franchise history is a big win in the ownership of David Tepper.
