Cam Newton inspires confidence

Confidence is everything in professional sports and if you don’t have it there is no point in trying.

Whether that is being confident in yourself or teammates and coaches, it makes little difference. Both are necessary to success and it is something that Cam Newton has most certainly never struggled with.

We can all remember the iconic, “You been watching film too, huh?”, that was immediately followed by a touchdown pass to none other than Christian McCaffrey. That is the kind of unapologetic swagger that the Carolina Panthers need to start getting their groove back.

Newton can make any throw at any time and run over any player when the game is on the line. More importantly, he knows it.

While Sam Darnold has looked unsure about almost every decision he has made since Week 4, and deservedly so for some of the more interesting ones, Newton has never been unsure of, well, anything,

The other side of this is the sheer amount of energy that confidence can bring to a team.

Think about which team is more likely to produce a good result. One led by a quiet and sometimes sulking quarterback, or one that is led by a guy that is running up and down the sideline pumping his teammates up when the defense makes a great play and isn’t afraid to get into someone’s face when he needs to.

The Panthers need to start having fun again, breathe a little life back into that sideline that’s looked more like a funeral than a football game. And who better to bring that energy and swagger than Newton himself.
