Cam Newton has a deep connection with the Carolinas

Drafted No. 1 overall back in 2011, Cam Newton played for nine years with the Carolina Panthers, led the team to a Super Bowl and four playoff appearances.

He also earned some personal accolades in the process, winning an NFL MVP in 2015 and Offensive Rookie of the Year. Newton set multiple NFL records in his rookie season and continued that success throughout his career.

After 2015, Newton was plagued by injuries that deterred his play but nevertheless, he laced up the cleats and put on the pads every game to give it his all.

It’s not just what he does on the field; it’s the effort and commitment off the field.

Newton was a Walter Payton Man of the Year candidate in 2019 and won the Charity Challenge that year for his valued impact on the community.

The Auburn product has created a reputation of giving back to those in need, including but not limited to providing Thanksgiving meals to kids in need or posing as “Santa Cam,” gifting thousands of dollars worth of gifts to children.

His signing aligns perfectly with these holidays to possibly continue these traditions if Newton chooses to do so.

After all the good memories that Newton brought to this city on and off the field, it’s good to let him play a few more games in a Panthers uniform and let him go on his own terms. It also gives Carolina a sense of hope that things might not spiral completely out of control.
