Since returning to the Arizona Cardinals a year ago in a trade with the New York Giants, Markus Golden has become one of the most underrated defensive players in the league.

This year, in particular, Golden has put on a show. Even at 30 years old.

Golden has nine sacks, four forced fumbles, 29 tackles and a pass deflection already this season. He’s benefitted significantly from a substantial increase in talent around him and the Cardinals will be relying on the player much more now that J.J. Watt has been ruled out for the season.

The former Missouri standout has proven to be Arizona’s best pass rusher. The Carolina Panthers and their struggling offensive line is going to get another stern test it might not be up to.

Last week, Golden sacked San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garroppolo three times. A ruthless display that further enhanced his Pro Bowl aspirations in 2021.

There will be defensive weapons all over the field facing P.J. Walker or Cam Newton if he’s put into the game at any stage following his incredible return to the organization. But make absolutely no mistake, Golden is one that will silently cause the most damage if allowed.

This is something Carolina cannot allow to happen. However, giving Golden double-teams might be tough when one considers Chandler Jones rushes off the opposite side of the field.
