Cam Newton’s dream return for the Carolina Panthers

Let’s be honest, when we all went to sleep Saturday night I doubt any of us dreamed that Cam Newton’s return would be this great.

His first two touches back in a Carolina Panthers uniform resulted in two touchdowns.

The first was a throwback to his MVP days. When No. 1 jogged out on first and goal at the two everyone in the stadium and watching on TV knew the play that was coming, stopping it is a totally different matter.

Of course, it was a quarterback power, with fullback Giovanni Ricci leading the way. Newton stiff-armed Arizona Cardinals linebacker Zaven Collins and then ran over Isaiah Simmons for six.

The celebration which saw Newton rip off his helmet with the “I’m back” bellowing quickly went viral. It did incur an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty but who really cares.

If you do one thing today, check out the Panthers Spanish radio call of Newton’s touchdown. It’s just fantastic.

To make things better on the next drive, after a defensive stand on fourth down Newton again trotted out for first and goal. This time, he found Robby Anderson for the two-yard score.

Seeing Anderson with a beaming smile on his face was something we’ve not witnessed much this season.

You could just see the impact Newton had on the team as a whole. The defense was flying across the field and the quarterback was hyped on the sideline. We even saw a customary victory lap after the game.

A rather telling sign of Newton’s impact was a clip of him leading the offensive huddle on the sideline. Every player was listening to every word.

And he’d only been back for three days.
