P.J. Walker – Carolina Panthers QB
You got to give credit when credit is due and P.J. Walker certainly deserves it with the performance he had on Sunday.
He wasn’t perfect in anyways, throwing an interception and fumbling the ball twice. But Walker did what he needed to do, which was managing the game and help lead the Carolina Panthers to victory.
Walker could have been atrocious, especially by knowing Cam Newton was returning and could have easily stepped into the game at any moment. However, he didn’t subdue to pressure and completed 22-of-29 passes for 167 yards.
Even though he’s struggled at times when coming in as a backup, Walker is now 2-0 over the past year in spot starts for the Panthers and that’s exactly what a team wants when their backup comes in to play.
For those saying Walker should remain the starter, just stop.
Newton will be the guy moving forward and Walker can be a great backup for him, as we saw Sunday.
And from a personal perspective, this was a fantastic audition for Walker to potentially fight for a starting job somewhere else in 2022 once his contract expires. Even though the Panthers will probably explore the possibility of keeping him around in some capacity.
