David DeCastro – OG

The turnaround on the offensive line interior has been outstanding. Michael Jordan’s consistent level of production was something the Carolina Panthers sorely missed before his arrival and the encouraging transition of Trent Scott from the edge is another massive plus in a real position of need.

Carolina might decide to ride with this duo for the remainder of the campaign. However, picking up the phone, calling David DeCastro, and checking on his status wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world.

DeCastro was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason and was dealing with an ankle problem that saw the player contemplate retirement. Although nothing concrete has been confirmed as yet.

Just how DeCastro’s rehabilitation is coming along would dictate his or another team’s next move. He is a formidable guard at the peak of his powers, even though those days might be long gone.

Again, bringing in a veteran at this stage who hasn’t played all season might not be an option. But if the Panthers truly want to mount a playoff push with Cam Newton under center, they’ll do everything in their power to surround the signal-caller with everything he needs.

Of all the options on this list, DeCastro is the most unlikely. Hopefully, Jordan and Scott can maintain or even increase their production alongside new center Pat Elflein.
