A.J. Bouye – Carolina Panthers CB

It was another dominant afternoon for the Carolina Panthers’ defense. The question of whether Phil Snow’s unit can be classed as elite or not is no longer a discussion and if the offense continues to progress with Cam Newton under center, the sky is the limit.

Others generally get more credit, but the contribution made by A.J. Bouye at the Arizona Cardinals was outstanding. The former Pro Bowler was assured in coverage once again – coming up with a couple of big stops – and his tackling prowess against the run further heightened his overall influence.

Snow has an embarrassment of riches at the cornerback position. He is rotating personnel plenty without a drop-off in production, which is the recipe for success if the Panthers want to be playing meaningful playoff football in the New Year.

Acquiring Bouye in free agency was a shrewd bit of business by the Panthers. His veteran leadership has been a real asset and the player is also backing this up with solid production when it matters.

Whether his consistency is enough to earn a new deal beyond the current campaign is up for debate. But the Panthers will be relying on Bouye and other locker room leaders during a crucial final seven games in 2021.
