D.J. Moore – Carolina Panthers WR
This final winner spot was a toss-up between D.J. Moore and Christian McCaffrey. But I’ll give it to wideout since he has struggled mightily the last few weeks, due to poor quarterback play before Cam Newton’s arrival.
With Newton making his first start for the Carolina Panthers since his bombshell return, he immediately focused on connecting with Moore right out of the gate.
Moore caught a 10-yard pass from Newton in the first quarter to give the Panthers their first score of the day and he went on to finish the day with five receptions for 50 yards.
He was targeted seven times.
For the first time in a while, Moore seemed comfortable when trying to catch Newton’s passes and it was noticeable that the 2015 NFL MVP made sure his top weapon in the passing game was protected when running his routes.
It looked as if Moore was on his way to another huge 1,000-yard season. But he obviously slowed down a bunch with the play of Sam Darnold that ultimately led the Panthers to go in a different direction and put the signal-caller on the reserve/injured list.
After Sunday’s game, the stock on Moore should be rising. However, another stiff test awaits him against an improving Miami Dolphins secondary on Sunday.
